Frieze Los Angeles 2025: Emmanuel Louisnord Desir

19 - 22 February 2025
Emmanuel Louisnord Desir will present work based around concepts of utility, labor, and the body as they relate to the colonial history of The Americas and their reverberations in the present day. Sculptures pay homage to ancestry, and offer alternative figures to the bronze and stone depictions of colonial generals, presidents, and other male figures from America's oppressive past. Wall works depict biblical scenes used as stand-ins for the calamities of our past as well as the potential for the future. Through his religious upbringing Desir appropriates allegories as opening points for discussing race, masculinity, and the desire for more within an oppressive society.
